MEETING NOTES
January 2010
1. **NEW Requirement*** BLS Recertification Waiver Requirements!
As of January 1, 2010, there is a new policy on provider recertification exemption waivers. The Operating Medical Director’s (OMD’s) put into effect the following criteria to be considered for exemption. First Responder and/or EMT providers must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a member of a licensed EMS agency
- Must have complete all required hours for their level of certification
- Received an Eligibility Letter from the Office of EMS
- Must provide a copy of a current Healthprovider CPR card
- Must have attended and completed the mandatory TJEMS “Skills Drill” each year during the recertification period
- Have been in “good standing” during their certification period (not have had any suspensions of clinical privileges, corrective actions, etc.).
- Must have attended three (3) TJEMS CE training sessions each year during the recertification period in addition to the annual skills drill (skills drill does not count as a CE session).
Remember: The Agencies OMD has the final disposition on exemption from testing.
2. Protocol Quiz: The protocol quizzes will resume in February 2010. The first quiz will be on MDI (meter-dose-inhalers) and Albuterol. A schedule for the drug topic will be in next month’s BLS notes.
3. BLS CE Training Schedule for 2010:
- January - START Triage 1 hour/Cat 2
- February – Infection Control 2 hours/Cat 1
- March - “To KED or Not” 1 hour/Cat 1 (Trauma)
- April - Skills Drill ( Mandatory) 2 hours/Cat 1 (Practical)
- May - Street Drugs 2 hours/Cat 2
- June - Medical Scenarios 2 hours/Cat 1
- July – No Classes (except for CARS and Contract)
- August – MCI Management 2 hours/Cat 2
- September – Patient Assessment 2 hours/Cat 1
- October – “Body Art” & EMS 1 hour/Cat 2
- November – Hazmat 1 hour/Cat 2
- December – No Classes (except for Contract)
4. Recertification: Remember to coordinate 90 days ahead of time with your TJ staff liaison regarding your recertification. Note the new requirements.
